If it asks for a career plan, make the fellowship the obvious next step in it rather than a detour. The plan should not work without them.

Fellowships usually select on trajectory rather than on achievement so far. They are asking where you are going. An application that only lists what you have done does not answer that.

If there is a word limit, use most of it. Coming in at half the limit reads as not having much to say, whether or not that is true.
