On networking or leadership questions: they are not asking whether you know important people. They are asking whether you build relationships deliberately and what came of it. A small example with a real outcome beats a big name.

Be specific about what you would do with the year. Vague plans read as somebody who wants the title rather than the work.

Check whether they want the application in a particular format before you build it in another. Some will reject on format alone, and it is the least interesting way to lose.
