When did you decide your organisation should stop?

Asking seriously. I have watched several good organisations continue for years past the point of usefulness because stopping feels like failure. I would like to hear from anyone who chose to close.

We closed the loan programme last year. The decision got easier when we stopped asking whether we could continue and started asking whether the people we served would be worse off if we did not exist. They would not have been.

The hardest part is staff. We gave three months notice and helped everyone find something, and that took longer than the closing itself.
